Elizabeth Olsen’s “Godzilla” grosses about $525 million, Softbank invests $250 million in production house

SoftBank, which owns a majority stake in U.S. wireless carrier Sprint, will invest $250 million in Legendary Entertainment, the Burbank production house and financier behind recent movies including “Godzilla”
Summer’s “Godzilla” grossed about $525 million in ticket sales around the world, 62% of which came from outside the U.S. and Canada, according to Box Office Mojo.
SoftBank has plenty of money to spend, especially after the initial public offering of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., the Chinese Internet company that began trading on Wall Street last month. More than 30% of Alibaba’s shares are owned by SoftBank.

Elizabeth Olsen has been cast as Audrey Williams, Hank Wiliams’ wife, in I Saw The Light, an upcoming biopic of the country music pioneer. Olsen will be starring alongside Hiddleston, who has already started prepping for the lead role in the film directed by Marc Abraham. Audrey Williams served as the Alabama-born singer’s wife, manager, duet partner, and occasional member of Williams’ touring band throughout the couple’s tumultuous marriage.
Olsen starred in “Godzilla” this summer and is also set to star in the Avengers: Age of Ultron next year. The 25-year-old actress has gained critical acclaim for her roles in movies such as Kill Your Darlings and Very Good Girls.
“Godzilla” will be the biggest box office bomb of 2014. Godzilla as a character is box office poison. The fact is the last 3 Godzilla movies released domestically have flopped: “Godzilla 1985” made $4M; “Godzilla 2000” made a whopping $10M and the last attempt at a Hollywood-style big budget remake, also called “Godzilla” bombed so bad that its lead toy licensee went bankrupt. Had the movie made a profit the studio wouldn’t have just let the rights expire in 2003 without even attempting a reboot or sequel. They had 5 years to make a new film based on this property yet they passed. 1/23/2014 John Furrier Forbes
Godzilla 2 will stomp into theaters on June 8, 2018, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures announced on August 14. This summer, Godzilla amassed a solid $507.7 million at the global box office, successfully launching a franchise based around the iconic monster.
Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $200,676,069 38.2%
+ Foreign: $324,300,000 61.8%
= Worldwide: $524,976,069 [August 28]
The Scarlet Witch is always in an eerie, otherworldly state—overwhelmed by the vast psychic knowledge inundating her at all times. “The reason she’s so special is because she has such a vast amount of knowledge that she’s unable to learn how to control it,” Olsen says. “No one taught her how to control it properly. So it gets the best of her. It’s not that she’s mentally insane, it’s just that she’s just overly stimulated. And she can connect to this world and parallel worlds at the same time, and parallel times.”
The actress said she drew on her own family experience—having a very close relationship with her older brother, and witnessing first-hand the interaction of twins. (She’s the younger sister of former child stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.)
“My understanding of twins is that they always balance each other out,” she says. “When one’s high, the other one’s low. When one’s sick, the other one’s healthy. That happens, I think, a lot more often than not when people are really close as twins.”
Godzilla’s formulaic fun earned so much money its first weekend that the studio has already ordered a sequel. Legendary Pictures and distributor Warner Bros. have seen Godzilla stomp through box office records. The film has grossed more than $203.8 million worldwide, crossing the $100 million mark domestically in just four and a half days. Its $93.1 million opening weekend was a surprise
Speaking on the red carpet about the film in London, Elizabeth Olsen said: ‘I didn’t really know what a Godzilla film is, I had never seen one before. But I signed on after talking to Gareth, who told me it is the best monster movie ever made.

Rated R, the movie was released in a limited number of theaters and received mixed reviews from critics and moviegoers. Kate Winslet was attached for a long time to star in the lead role. Jessica Biel then replaced her with Gerard Butler as Laurent. In the fall of 2011, Elizabeth Olsen was announced as a replacement in the lead role.

Elizabeth Olsen’s highest-profile role since her breakout turn in Martha Marcy May Marlene involved getting raped onscreen for kicks in Old Boy. The good news is that, quality of roles unknown; she will be a featured player in Avengers: Age Of Ultron and this summer’s Godzilla.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier aka Captain America 2. Elizabeth Olsen is playing Scarlet Witch, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson is playing Quicksilver. With Fox set to introduce their version of Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, it certainly makes sense that Marvel Studios would want to get their version on the big screen first (and Captain America: The Winter Soldier is their big opportunity to do so).
The buzz about Captain America: The Winter Soldier that has emerged from the test screenings is that the film is really good. Some are calling it the best movie from Marvel Studios to date and definitely the best of Marvel Studios Phase 2 so far.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to be released in on April 4, 2014.

Olsen, star of the coming “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”, in a focused performance prefers boots: stomping, black, militaristic footwear that visually runs counter to the billowy white dress she wears, a combination that exudes beauty and toughness. This Juliet is in command of her sensuality, and her man — yet she’s inevitably overcome by the catastrophic forces of hormones and parental expectations. Any “Romeo & Juliet” will rise or fall on the chemistry of its leads, and in that light, the newest take on Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, now open at Off-Broadway’s Classic Stage Company, ranks a notch or so ahead of its more-publicized Broadway counterpart.
Sony Classics opened Daniel Radcliffe’s Sundance debut Kill Your Darlings from first-time feature filmmaker John Krokidas in 4 theaters in New York and Los Angeles, grossing $57,722. The film averaged $14,431. To put in perspective, SPC’s Blue Jasmine opened in 6 theaters in August, averaging just over $102K. It will head to most major markets through November. Daniel Radcliffe is Britain’s richest “young celebrity”, according to a survey conducted by Heat magazine, whose net worth is estimated at £56.18m
Opening night of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Julian Cihi as the titular lovers, at off-Broadway’s Classic Stage Company is set for October 16. Tea Alagic directs the production.
Godzilla human cast looks to include Elizabeth Olsen, who is a rising star after her strong performances in the films Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House.
The Gareth Edwards-directed reboot is the first big-budget film for Olsen, the younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley whose turn in the 2011 indie drama “Martha Marcy May Marlene” garnered her critical acclaim and “next big thing” buzz.

These trailers may only be shown before R-rated, NC-17-rated, unrated movies (only films that are released in theaters rated R and not in theaters rated PG-13) or sometimes PG-13. These trailers may include nudity, profanity or other material deemed inappropriate for children – foul language and violent, sexual, or otherwise objectionable imagery. Perhaps the most promising twist is the cast. In addition to the dependable Brolin in the challenging lead role, Martha Marcy May Marlene’s Elizabeth Olsen plays the female lead.
A fall festival run and a September 27, 2013 release is scheduled for Therese, directed and written by Charlie Stratton and starring Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Felton, Jessica Lange and Oscar Isaac. An Oscar campaign is also planned for the romantic thriller based on the Emile Zola novel Therese Raquin, which is set in the lower depths of 1860s Paris.
“Oldboy,” a graphic novel, was originally turned into a film by South Korean director Chan-wook Park. Will Smith and Steven Spielberg were originally toying with the idea of an American version, but Lee came aboard last year and Brolin soon followed to star. Elizabeth Olsen has been offered the female lead; with three other projects listed to start in 2013 but a sizable gap in her schedule before those projects are due to start. Indeed, scheduling issues with Brolin may be behind troublesome casting decisions here.read
