Presidio County Sheriff’s Office report  named C. Allen Foster as Scalia’s close friend on the trip. [Did he pay for the trip? ]his eclectic group of clients has included the Republican Party, the libertarian Cato Institute, and the former Blackwater Security Consulting, which was involved in a series of questionable incidents, including a 2007 shootout in Iraq that killed 17 Iraqis.

This trip has brought new attention to the justice’s penchant for travel, it was in addition to the 258 subsidized trips that he took from 2004 to 2014. Justice Scalia went on at least 23 privately funded trips in 2014 alone to places like Hawaii, Ireland and Switzerland, giving speeches, participating in moot court events or teaching classes. Just a few weeks before his death, he was in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Legal specialists said the trip Scalia and Foster took to the Texas ranch raised no ethical concerns, calling it common for judges to socialize with lawyers in the close-knit fraternity of elite legal practitioners.
Cibolo Creek Ranch owner John Poindexter and C. Allen Foster, the prominent Washington lawyer who traveled to the ranch with Scalia by private plane, hold leadership positions within the [Austrian] International Order of St. Hubertus. Planes owned by Wallace “Happy” Rogers III and the company of A.J. Lewis III left from San Antonio and arrived at the ranch just after noon Feb. 12. The planes departed the ranch about 30 minutes apart Feb. 14, according to flight records provided to The Post by FlightAware.
Rogers owns the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum in San Antonio. He has donated $65,000 to Republican candidates since 2008. Lewis is the owner of a restaurant supplier company, also based in San Antonio. He has given $3,500 to GOP candidates since 2007.

[February 17 Justice’s trip to Cibolo Creek Ranch – SCOTUS trips ]

“I did not pay for the Justice’s trip to Cibolo Creek Ranch,” Poindexter wrote in a brief email Tuesday. “He was an invited guest, along with a friend, just like 35 others.” a friend of Poindexter’s suggested inviting him, the ranch owner said.
Scalia and a friend arrived Friday by chartered aircraft, traveling through Houston. At the ranch, Scalia joined about 35 other people invited by Poindexter, who declined to name the other guests.
In the day leading up to his death, Scalia was “very congenial, very convivial,”
‘He seemed to enjoy himself greatly.’
At 9 p.m., after the conclusion of a cocktail reception and dinner, Scalia, who had flown to Texas early Friday, told Poindexter he was going to turn in for the night, and went to the property’s presidential suite.
Just after 11 a.m., Mr. Poindexter and a friend of Justice Scalia’s tried the door again, again to no answer. They entered the room, and it took no medical training, Mr. Poindexter said, to recognize that Justice Scalia was dead.
