The money comes from insurance policies.

“We now have an economic agreement in principal that is supported by the plaintiffs, the AG’s office, the defendants and all of the insurers that, if approved, would provide significant compensation to victims, creditors and the estate, and allow the parties to avoid years of costly, time consuming and uncertain litigation on all sides,” Adam Harris, a lawyer for studio co-founder Bob Weinstein, told a bankruptcy court judge in Wilmington, Delaware, on May 23 2019.

Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has reportedly reached a $44 million settlement with a number of UK and US women over allegations of sexual harassment. Mr Weinstein will pay out £24million in compensation and an additional £11million in legal fees.

The money will be divided between 15 alleged victims and creditors who lost money when Mr Weinstein’s studio collapses following the allegations.

According to the Wall Street Journal the settlement was revealed by Adam Harris, a lawyer to Mr Weinstein’s brother.

Addressing a bankruptcy court in Delaware on Thursday he asserted: “We now have an economic agreement in principle that is supported by the plaintiffs, the New York attorney general’s office, the defendants and all of the insurers.”

These people –” she gestured to the various publicists and Weinstein assistants lingering over the mixed nuts at the bar -– “must have to do that all the time for things that aren’t quite deserving of it.”
